I AM BATMAN

“Man he is really lapping it up. He must be really thirsty,” I thought.

Wrong.

Front paws on the kitchen table. Furiously drinking the milk out of my bowl of oatmeal.

So after getting him down I only had 5 minutes before I had to leave for work. I quickly ate what was left in the bowl.

What I learned is never trust a dog to watch your food.

So how do we learn? You pick. Like taking an online personality quiz. Those are addicting. Am I Batman? Like I wouldn’t know if I was. Which Popular TV show character are you? As if this changes things.

So yeah, learning styles. We all have them and teachers and professors ignore them all. There are several teaching styles that sorta correspond with the learning styles. But teachers just lecture.

It is easier to lecture. You stand up front and talk about whatever you want and then when questions arise deflect, ignore or fake it.

Information is delivered. Your part is over. If they don’t understand it, their problem. Just like an email. It takes the burden off the sender. Something not done at work? Send an email. You did something. Nothing got done. Not your problem.

Some teachers do more. Others get gone. I’m really not sure. I had some great teachers, but mostly I had teachers who were great at punching the clock.

So if it is not the teacher’s responsibility to make sure you learn, then why do we need them? Just buy textbooks or any books for that matter and learn without signing up for classes. Read more. You are going to learn way more reading on your own anyways. Most teachers are good people. I even tried to be one once. You don’t really need them.

Mike DeBolt, my elementary school principle, used to have a saying along the lines of having a “thirst for knowledge”. So when I see someone turning pages I think “Man he is really lapping it up. He must be really thirsty.”

Shameless self-promotion (I am aware of the complete contradiction here):
