Ever Get That Stuck Feeling?

I did once when I couldn’t get off my sister’s roof.

I was up on the roof of her two story house to repaint her chimney. They way I got up there was not unusual but I did not think the ladder would support me properly when it came time to climb back down. Thankfully I didn’t leave my cell phone on the ground.

As I sat there in a mild panic I realized I needed to first calm down.

Never mind my fear of heights.

I could have called right away. But I was embarrassed and didn’t want to inconvenience anyone.

I first thought about yelling out to a passing by neighbor. But it wasn’t my neighbor so I didn’t know what they would say or do so I just sat and thought some more.

Then I thought who might be close by I could call who would be least inconvenienced. No one answered.

It was time to interrupt my wife.

Thankfully she loves me enough to sacrifice her lunch break to drive over and hold the ladder so I could get down.

I sometimes feel like my life is going nowhere.

That I am stuck.

It is usually for me when I let myself get overwhelmed by trying to take on too many interests at the same time. Or when I am being particularly lazy and just doing the same simple things over and over again but not trying changeling things. I don’t know really when I feel this way. It is when I let myself do things the “easy way”.

Once I told a counselor that I could get things done without much effort but I was not really feeling fulfilled by anything. He basically asked me, “Why do you do things half-ass?” I was angry with him because he was right. I did, and sometimes do, things half-ass. I need to give my best effort to feel like I am not just wasting away.


I was thinking is there a difference between self-help and self improvement?

I think self-improvement sounds less chessy. But I don’t know if that makes any difference.

Today’s Assignment: Write Ten Ways To Improve My Life By Just 1% This Month


1 I am a bit of a numbers nerd. Along with geography. I calculated to see what approximately 1% would be for my first one, eating healthier. Let us say I eat 3 meals a day for 30 days in a month and that is 90 meals in a month. To eat 1% healthier I would need to eat better just ONE time. Next time I want to eat bad, I just will eat good. Problem solved.

2 To improve myself I need to work out more. Due to being lazy and not working out lately pretty much I need to work out just ONE time to be 1% better. Not too hard to do…

3 To read more I will read ONE book for at least 30 minutes every day. This will be more than 1% but I love reading and will get into quickly so once a day will soon become 1% (in theory).

4 Pray one more time a day. So my math has fallen apart and I have no way to appropriately calculate this or any other of the activities. Therefore I will just go with aiming for ONE more prayer a day.

5 I think my life is better when I am nice to others. I want to give ONE positive compliment a week to encourage and motivate others.

6 Along the same lines I want to be helpful. I want to answer ONE question a week on Quora.

7 Sleeping more consistently would improve my life. To improve 1% I will not sleep in ONE time I want to on the weekend.

8 Go for ONE walk a week with my dogs. This is a great way to get outdoors, get some sun, and relax my mind.

9 To improve my life several percent I am planning on buying a new dishwasher. Not glamorous but it will make my life more than 1% better.

10 Try ONE thing I have never done before (within reason) in the next month. This will improve my life by widening my life experiences and keeping things interesting.


P.S. Why would anyone let another person affect their thoughts and behaviors?

Are we not independent and self-reliant?
