Do YOU Know Your Limits?

As American’s we always try to take things to the limit.

Push the envelope. Live on the edge. And other such clichés.

Wikipedia provides us with this:

“The Frontier Thesis or Turner Thesis, is the argument advanced by historian Frederick Jackson Turner in 1893 that American democracy was formed by the American frontier. He stressed the process—the moving frontier line—and the impact it had on pioneers going through the process.

In the thesis, the American frontier established liberty by releasing Americans from European mindsets and eroding old, dysfunctional customs. The frontier had no need for standing armies, established churches, aristocrats or nobles, nor for landed gentry who controlled most of the land and charged heavy rents.

Frontier land was free for the taking.

Turner first announced his thesis in a paper entitled “The Significance of the Frontier in American History”, delivered to the American Historical Association in 1893 in Chicago. He won wide acclaim among historians and intellectuals. Turner elaborated on the theme in his advanced history lectures and in a series of essays published over the next 25 years, published along with his initial paper as The Frontier in American History.”

The Frontier in American History by Frederick Jackson Turner was a worthy read. It was like most history books that are compilations of essays for speeches or lectures. However, the content is fascinating and Turner keeps the pages turning. My puns are terrible by the way.

With the displacement of place, supported by my EMPTY ROOM THEORY, “geography is ended.” Therefore we need to have new frontiers in the Mind and in our lives. We strive for more, but do YOU just want material things or are YOU different? I am looking to get more experiences in life along with more personal growth

Day 90 of Claudia’s book Become An Idea Machine.

Today’s Assignment: Ten New Frontiers That I See Myself Exploring

1 Being A Self-Employed Entrepreneur

I have started the ball rolling in this direction. It may be a while before I reach this frontier but I have decided and committed to it. Now to do the work!

2 More Social Connectivity (Both On and Offline)

I am not as shy or introverted as I once was. Yet I do not get out as much as I would like to. And I want to start making more comments and replies online to be part of the connection and not just a passive consumer of it.

3 Co-Write A Book With Sarah

We have started our book, so stay tuned for its pending completion. We have set ourselves a break neck schedule because we love challenges and need deadlines or else we don’t get it done.

4 Podcasting

I am fascinated by podcasting and love to listen to them too! We intend to breach this frontier, we just don’t know when yet…

5 App Creation

We’ve got the ideas (I’m an idea machine now…) and we’ve got the guidance. We’ve just got to get gettin… to get it done!

6 3D Printing Expert

I have decided I want to become an expert on 3D printing. I know I am late to the party, but I don’t think I am too late to be part of the game. I want to be leading the future of 3D printing in some form or fashion. Maybe even high fashion…

7 Leadership/Organization Expert

I am also enamored with these topics. Not sure I have time for everything, but they will be in the chute and ready to go if I need to fall back a little before pushing forward!

8 Paid Speaker

Flapin’ my gums for some bucks? Who wouldn’t? Shy people. But anyways I want to get to a point where I am collecting Key Note fees, not because I deserve them, but because I will bring value and worth to those who listen (once I am an expert…).

9 Fatherhood

I’m not a dad yet. And don’t have plans to be soon. But I will maybe one day face this frontier with a brave face and an empty wallet.

10 Missionary

I never thought I would be saying this, but my wife and I have joked about it for years. And perhaps in the future we will go abroad with the Gospel of Jesus Christ as mission. All in His good time!

P.S. Why would anyone let another person affect their thoughts and behaviors?

Are we not independent and self-reliant?

As much as we may be filled with thoughts like these, anyone who is honest will admit that they have been shaped and influenced by several people throughout their life.

Speaking of influential people, what do James Altucher, Dale Carnegie, and Theodore Roosevelt all have in common?

When reading Conspire To Inspire, you will find out why I chose to feature these three prominent people along with six others. You will get a quick and to the point glimpse at inspirational people, a story about when I discovered them, and why you should care.

Don’t believe me?
